When my professor had me read in class, I'd always say, "はい、読んでみます!" - "Okay, I'll read (and see how I do)." Another example could be: 「せっかく作ったケーキを食べてみてくれる?」...

Don't you think it would be better to wait to teach or answer questions about grammar, etc. until you have more experience? Anyhow, the てみる structure means "to try." Ex. またやってみます。 I'll try again.
